If you want a longer battery lifetime, you can set the value to 12.2 or 12.5V, Google for example. The bulb positioning mechanism is no longer in place and the switch has been simplified (see below). Very little information is available concerning the Kodak Amateur Printers, but I believe the one below is an early model because it is more complex (more expensive to build) and the switching mechanism seems to be more finicky as to adjustment than other models. The shaft and contacts on this switch have to be precisely adjusted in order for the mechanism to operate as designed. When the shaft is depressed the current passes through the black wired attached to the upper post on the switch and down through the lower black wire which is attached to left (upper post of the white light socket in the above photo) screw post on the high wattage white light. A shaft protrudes through the right and is turned to move the lights left and right (up and down in the photo). But simply looking at the solar panel’s shadow as I move it around, I can achieve a very high degree of perpendicular orientation.

When the shaft is up the current passes through the low wattage yellow bulb first lighting it up brightly and the high wattage bulb not at all. The current comes through the wire on the right and passes through the upper metal strip when the peg is up thereby lighting the yellow bulb. The Kodak switch is a thin metal bar that is not too kind to your fingers. As you can see, it was made of a spring, a washer and two metal strips. If your solar system has a battery and charge controller, and all your devices run on the same voltage, you can also use typical 12V/24V connectors. Well, I'm hoping that it'll allow me to run a tank dry, warning me when the fuel pressure drops before the engine quits. Yes, some of these analyzers store the engine parameters for later analysis, and I find that a very useful approach.

In addition to very good carpentry, the homemade printer has some very interesting features that perhaps Kodak should have copied. What is so unique is that it is not a Kodak Amateur Printer, but a homemade copy, what is electric cable and a very good one at that. The entire process could be completed by the amateur in daylight. In most of the Kodak Amateur Printers now available the cloth is severly damaged or missing. The above photo shows what I believe is a later model of the Kodak Amateur Printer. The photo on the right shows the interior which is much simpler than the previous printer. When the contact printer is plugged into an outlet the safelight comes on. The incoming hot wire is attached to the left side of the safe light (top contact in interior photo above). These contact printers were frequently used to mass produce post cards in the 3 1/4-inch by 5-inch size at up to 300 cards per hour.

The best starting point is usually to determine the battery size you need. Harvesting solar energy inside a building may not be the most efficient, but the structure of the solar panel doesn’t need to withstand wind and rain. To solve these problems though, we need the energy companies and the government to work together. However, the battery voltage reflects the correct storage capacity only when there is no active power supply (the solar panel doesn’t work) and no electric load (no device connected). For example, Marie Verdeil converted an industrial ventilating fan to work on 1V to 24V, supplying up to 250 watts of cooling power. For example, when I turn on the lighting in my office, the battery voltage will drop from 12.9 V to about 12.1 V. After a few hours of use, it will be at 11.7 V or 11.8 V. However, when I turn off the lights at the end of the evening, the voltage rebounds to 12.5 V or 12.6 V. When the battery is charging during the day, the voltage reading indicates the state of the charge.
